Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at bristolwomenskarate@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

These classes are perfect for beginners who want to try something new. If you want to feel empowered, improve your strength and fitness, learn self-defence, have fun and make friends then this is for you!

Classes are open to all women and non-binary people aged 16+. You don’t need any previous martial arts experience, those with experience are very welcome too. You don’t need to be fit but if you have medical/health conditions please do check with your medical practitioner that it is OK for you to take part.

Yes please! We have a limited number of spaces available in each class and we need to ensure we have an accurate record of attendance and can plan accordingly. Once registered as a member of the class you will remain on the class register so you won’t need to book each time you come.

If you would like any help with making a booking just drop us a message at bristolwomenskarate@gmail.com and we can help you with this.

Something comfortable which you can move around in easily. Please avoid clothing with buttons and zips and leave jewellery at home. Karate is done in bare feet so no special footwear is required.

Please bring a drink and a smile, that’s all you need 😊

If you have paid for monthly or annual membership you are welcome to cancel at any time, please email bristolwomenskarate@gmail.com if you wish to cancel. Any fees you have already paid cannot be refunded but no further payments will be taken. Monthly and annual fees are calculated based on 48 weeks per year and split into an even monthly payment to be paid over 12 months. This allows for 4 weeks closure per year for which you are not charged. If for any reason additional classes are cancelled (e.g. bad weather, bank holiday or instructor sickness), the class fee will be refunded. If you are unable to attend for any reason, no refund will be made.

Not to get started. In time if you would like a karate suit we can organise this for you, if you prefer to wear your own clothes that’s fine. For sparring and pairs work students will need mitts and we recommend wearing a gumshield. The class is non-contact but we take safety very seriously. If you want to purchase any equipment please let us know and we can organise this for you.
